“Using a mouth wash or rinse is not an acceptable substitute for a proper home care regimen that includes brushing with a fluoride toothpaste, followed by flossing, along with routine trips to the dentist for regular check-up.” Dr. Arun Narang, one of the dentists in Mississauga concerned with people using OTC mouthwashes, recommends preparing safe and inexpensive alternatives at home:
A saline solution rinse containing ½ tsp of salt mixed with 8 ounces of water, or
A stronger saline solution using ½ tsp of salt mixed with 4 ounces of water.
A sodium bicarbonate solution using ½ tsp baking soda with 8 ounces of water.
